Now

Near you

The Now screen with the live data from this moment, the same as Near you on the home page.

A day with the app

An ordinary day. No surprises.

The M1 at eight in the morning. The bushfire that closes the road home. The flooded causeway you only find out about when you get there. You know the story. With the app, you are the one who knows first, without searching.

Illustrative examples. The alerts you get depend on the places, routes and alerts you choose.

  1. 7:40
    Live Roads

Crash on the M1 Pacific Motorway northbound

QLDTraffic reports a crash near the Logan Motorway and the queue is already long. Your commute goes that way: there is still time to leave earlier or take another road.

  2. 13:20
    Live Roads

Watch and Act: bushfire near your route home

The NSW Rural Fire Service has raised the warning level. You see where the fire is and which roads are closed before you set off, not halfway there.

  3. 17:45
    Live Roads

Road to your parents' place closed by flooding

Live Traffic NSW lists the road as closed at the causeway. You know before the weekend drive, without hunting through the news.

  4. 21:30
    Live Roads

    Monash Freeway: lane closures tonight

VicTraffic lists overnight roadworks with lanes closed from 9 pm. You find out tonight on the couch, not on the on-ramp.

What you will get

Everything that affects your trip, in one place

Today it is one app for your state's roads, another for bushfires, a website for fuel prices and the news for the rest. In the app it is all together, filtered for where you live and where you drive. One glance and you are done.

Now

Open the app and see straight away what is happening around you: closures, crashes and roadworks from the state road authorities, flooded roads and bushfire warnings from the fire services. All sorted by distance, with the source of each one.

Routes

Save the trips you always make, like your commute or the school run. Before the time you usually leave, the app checks for anything on the way and only tells you if there is.

Alerts

Pick your places (home, work, your parents' town) and what you want to hear about. Bushfire warnings near your places, flooded roads and closures on your routes reach you without you having to look.

Map and more

The map with everything that is live, traffic cameras in NSW and Queensland, the cheapest fuel where prices are published (NSW, the ACT and Tasmania) and the nearest EV charger. What you already use on the site, now in your pocket.

Turn-by-turn navigation comes in a later phase. For now the app tells you what is going on; to be guided to your destination, keep using the maps app you prefer.

Why it is different

Built to warn you, not to distract you

  • Official sources only

Everything you see comes from 13 official sources, the same ones Live Roads Australia uses and credits every day. No rumours or stray reports: every alert says where it comes from.

    • Live Traffic NSW
    • Main Roads WA
    • Traffic SA
    • Road Report NT
    • State Growth Tasmania
    • Transport Canberra and City Services
    • VicTraffic (DTP Victoria)
    • QLDTraffic
    • NSW Rural Fire Service
    • Queensland Fire Department
    • DFES Emergency WA
    • CFA Victoria
    • NASA FIRMS
  • Severe alerts come first

In summer a bushfire can close a highway in minutes, and in the wet a causeway goes under overnight. The warnings exist, but they reach you through channels you are not reading while you drive. That is why a Watch and Act or Emergency Warning near one of your places, or a closure on your route, always reaches you, even during quiet hours.

  • We keep only what you choose

You create a free account and we keep the places, routes and alerts you choose there, so we can warn you in time. We do not track where you go or keep a history of your trips. If you delete the account, everything goes with it.

When is the app coming out?

We do not have a date yet and would rather not promise one. We are building it on top of what Live Roads Australia already does every day. Everyone on the list hears first and can try it before anyone else.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. The app is free: download it, create your account and use it, without paying.

Do I need an account?

Yes, but it is free and takes a minute. The account keeps your places, your routes and your alert preferences, so the app knows what to warn you about. If you change phones, it is all there waiting for you.

What data do you keep about me?

We keep only what you choose: your account email, places, routes and alerts. We do not track where you go or keep a history of your trips. If you delete your account, everything in it goes too.

Is it coming to Australia?

Yes. The app is coming to Australia, built on the official sources Live Roads Australia already reads, state by state. There is no date yet; people on the list will be among the first to try it.

Which phones will it work on?

iPhone and Android. You can tell us which one you use in the form, which helps us plan the testing.

How many notifications will I get?

Only the ones you choose. You set the places, routes and kinds of alert you care about, and you can set quiet hours, at night for example. The exception is severe alerts, like a bushfire Emergency Warning near one of your places or a closure on your route: those always get through.

Where does the data come from?

From official sources: Live Traffic NSW, Main Roads WA, Traffic SA, Road Report NT, State Growth Tasmania, Transport Canberra and City Services, VicTraffic (DTP Victoria), QLDTraffic, NSW Rural Fire Service, Queensland Fire Department, DFES Emergency WA, CFA Victoria and NASA FIRMS. They are the same ones Live Roads Australia uses on the site, and every alert shows where it came from.

What do you do with my email?

We only use it to tell you about the app: first an email to confirm your sign-up, then the news that matters, like the day you can try it. We never sell it, and every email has a link to leave the list in one click. Privacy policy.

The traffic will not warn you. We will.

Fewer mornings stuck in a queue you could have avoided. Fewer surprises from a bushfire, a flood or a closure you did not know about. Leave your email and be among the first to try the app.
